42 For 42

42 For 42 is a 42-hour challenge in support of those who lost their lives in the war in Afghanistan. Participants walk around Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium for 42 hours, carrying 42 kilograms in their backpacks. One hour is dedicated to each of the 42 fallen.  Supporters join in on individual legs of the trek. Once again this year, Sean Mulqueen, an O.L.D. dad, led the organisation of this event. The challenge ran from 9 November through to 11 November. Team O.L.D.'s hour, on 10 November, was dedicated to Lieutenant Marcus Case who lost his life in Afghanistan in 2011.

Our students created posters from the heart in recognition of the soldiers walking in the challenge. These posters were displayed at Suncorp Stadium. We heard that the soldiers loved them and were grateful for the support from O.L.D. School.

The funds raised by 42 for 42 will contribute to the development of a memorial garden honouring those who fell in the Afghanistan conflict, and to create greater awareness of the issues facing our returning soldiers. Importantly, however, it is also a way to show the families of those who didn’t make it home that they’re still in our thoughts and that we remember their sacrifice.

As always, Sean, we were proud to stand with you.
