As a student attending Our Lady of Dolours School the expectation to follow the uniform guidelines is an essential part of our school life. All students are a reflection of our school and parents have a responsibility in ensuring their child is presenting themselves in a neat and tidy manner every day.

The Uniform Committee liaises closely with the school community and our uniform suppliers Ashgrove West Drapery to ensure our students represent Our Lady of Dolours looking the very best they can.

All uniform requirements are available for purchase in store or online.

Hair Policy

At Our Lady of Dolours, students are expected to wear their uniform with pride and present themselves in a way that reflects the school’s values of respect, dignity, and community. Hair must be neat, clean, and worn in a style that does not draw undue attention.

Hair Guidelines:
  • Natural Hair Colour: Only natural hair colours are permitted. Bleached, dyed, streaked, foiled, tipped, or other unnatural colouring is not acceptable.
  • Styles and Cuts: Hairstyles must be conservative and not attract unnecessary attention. Styles such as shaved heads, undercuts, mullets, tracks, patterns, or stark contrasts in length are not permitted. Final discretion rests with the School Leadership Team.
  • Minimum Hair Length: Gauge 3 is the shortest acceptable length for all students.
  • Hair Length and Face Visibility: Hair must be off the collar and kept out of the eyes. If a student frequently pulls their hair away from their face, it is considered too long.
  • Extensions and Rat Tails: Rat tails or deliberately extended sections of hair are not permitted.
  • Hair Tied Back: Hair that touches or falls below the shoulders must be tied back. Only navy, white, royal blue, or yellow ribbons or hair ties are allowed.
  • Event Exceptions: On designated event days (e.g. House Swimming, Athletics, Cross-Country Carnivals, or themed days such as Daniel Morcombe Day or Harmony Day), coloured hair accessories in line with the theme may be worn. The school will advise families of these allowances in advance.
Students whose hairstyles do not align with these guidelines may be required to correct the issue before returning to class. The school appreciates the ongoing support of parents and carers in maintaining high standards of presentation in line with our shared expectations.

Jewellery

Jewellery should be minimal with the exception of a watch, ear sleepers or studs and a cross on a chain if a student wishes to wear one.

Please ensure all uniform items are clearly marked with your child's full name.
