National Assessment Program
Literacy and Numeracy
Students in Years 3 and 5 at Our Lady of Dolours participate in NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) each year. NAPLAN is a national assessment that measures key areas of reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy, and in Term 1. The information gathered from NAPLAN is one of several tools used by the school to understand student learning, identify strengths and areas for growth, and plan appropriate support or extension.
NAPLAN assessments are completed online, except for Year 3 Writing, which is completed as a pencil‑and‑paper test, as required nationally. Some parts of NAPLAN Online adapt to student responses, helping to provide more detailed information about individual achievement.
Parents have the right, under Australian Government guidelines, to withdraw their child from NAPLAN should they choose. While the school does not encourage withdrawal, we respect family decisions and ensure parents are informed of their options. Further information is available by contacting the school or visiting the official NAPLAN website.
