On the morning of ANZAC Day, 25 April, our school community gathered at Sid Loder Park to participate in the ANZAC March and commemorative service organised by the Gaythorne RSL.
ANZAC Day is always a very special commemoration at Our Lady of Dolours School as we are closely asociated with Australia's Defence Forces through our high number of Defence Families. On the afternoon of 24 April, the eve of ANZAC Day, we held our annual ANZAC Service in the school's Remembrance Place. It was such a respectful and touching commemoration of all those who have fought for our country. We were supported by a Catafalque Party from Gallipollli Barracks at Enoggera. Many thanks to our special guests who joined us.
The soldiers from Gallipollli Barracks who participated in our ceremony arrived in a Bushmaster. Afterwards the Kids in the Crest were able to explore this unusual vehicle.
As part of our school ANZAC activities, we organised care packages to send to our Australian servicemen and women. Our school community donated many and varied items including non-perishable food items, toiletries, books, magazines, newspapers, stationery, homemade artwork, games, puzzles, decks of cards socks and sunglasses. Students and families also included messages of support in the packages. We hope these will be a huge morale booster for our deployed service members. We think they will especially like the items shown in our photo!
